How to Enroll in 2-Step Login (Duo)
All UVA students, faculty, and staff (excluding Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center employees) are required to enroll in 2-Step Login (Duo) to access NetBadge-protected resources.
New students entering UVA in Fall 2018 will receive an enrollment email following their Summer Orientation session.
Students receive a two-week grace period from the day the email is sent before they are required to enroll.

New employees receive a two-week grace period from the day they start work before they are required to enroll.
*Be sure to select the correct set of instructions below, depending on if you enroll BEFORE or AFTER your 2-week deadline/mandatory enrollment date.

If you are enrolling a smartphone
You MUST DOWNLOAD THE DUO MOBILE APP before
continuing the enrollment process.
In order to use a "push" authentication, you MUST select "Allow"
when Duo asks to send you notifications.
If you are enrolling a different device (non-smartphone), proceed to Step 2.
Click "Add New Device"
This blue button should appear next to "Your Duo Devices".
Follow the "Add a Device" Prompts:
Pick the country in which your device is registered using the dropdown menu on the top left of the "Add a Device" pop up screen. USA (+1) is the default.
Enter your full phone number, including area code. Phone numbers must be entered in the correct format for the designated country (e.g., 434-555-5555 for USA).
Enter a name for your device
(optional). Enter a phone number extension
(optional). Enter your device type (Mobile, Landline, or Tablet).
Enter your device platform (Unknown or Landline, Google Android, Apple iOS, Windows Phone, RIM Blackberry, Java J2ME, Palm webOS, Symbian OS, Windows Mobile, or Generic Smartphone).
Click "Activate" to Finish Enrolling (for Smartphones).
MUST complete this step to verify and activate your device for 2-Step Login.
You will receive an SMS message with a link to activate your Duo Mobile app.
Follow the prompts to activate your device.
*Note: If your cell phone does not have a data plan that allows SMS messages, then please use this alternate method of enrollment:
Enroll your phone as a tablet (select “Tablet” when asked for device type). This will allow you to add the Duo Mobile app and scan a barcode to enroll. With this option, you will only be able to receive “push” notifications or generate passcodes to authenticate; you will not be able to receive phone calls to authenticate.
AFTER 2 Weeks/Mandatory Date: Enroll in 2-Step Login (Duo)

You will be sent to the NetBadge Web Login page to log in with your UVA computing ID and password or digital certificate. This will initiate the 2-Step Login enrollment process.
Click "Set Up a Device Now"
You will be sent to the NetBadge Alert Page to begin your device setup.
Click "Start Setup"
This button, found on the first screen of the 2-Step Login Enrollment Portal, will begin the enrollment of your first device.
Choose Your Device
Select the type of device you will be enrolling (Smart Phone for Push Verification -
Recommended; Smart Phone/Cell Phone for Calling Verification ONLY - without Duo Mobile App; or Landline Phone for Calling Verification - Office Phone/VOIP Phone, Home Phone).
Enter Phone Number & Select Device Type
You must have physical access to the device to complete the process.
Verify and Activate the Device
(If enrolling a smartphone - Download Duo Mobile App Now)
Select the desired type of authentication for your device, then follow the on-screen prompts to complete activation.
"Push" Authentication via Duo Mobile App
To verify and activate your device to use a "push" authentication, you will need to install the Duo Mobile App. Follow the instructions that appear on the Install "Duo Mobile" App page to install the app on your device.
After you have installed the app, you will then enter the phone number of your chosen device to receive an SMS (text message) with a verification code. Follow the instructions sent to your phone to complete activation. The "Finish" button will turn green when your phone has been activated.
Call Authentication via Smartphone/Cell Phone
To verify and activate your smartphone or cell phone to use a call authentication, enter the phone number of your chosen device to receive an SMS (text message) with a verification code. Enter this verification code in the appropriate field to activate your device. Call Authentication via Landline Phone
To verify and activate your
landline to use a call authentication, enter the phone number of your chosen phone to receive a voice call with a verification code. Enter this verification code in the appropriate field to activate your device.
Confirm Your Device and Success!
You have completed enrolling in 2-Step Login. You can now use your device to authenticate through NetBadge-protected resources (e.g., UVA Box, SIS, UVA Collab, etc.).
Test Your Account, Manage Devices, or Generate Backup Codes
2-Step Login Management Portal to add, edit, or remove devices, or to generate Backup Codes.
